APPLICATION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO UNDERGRADUATE
PROGRAMS FOR 2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR


Information regarding the application and admission requirements are listed below.

A. APPLICATIONS
  1. To be a graduate of a Turkish high school or a secondary school of a level equivalent to that of a Turkish high school.
  2. Turkish-Cypriots and those holding a dual-citizenship with the Republic of Turkey cannot apply as international candidates.
  3. Candidates who have been awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals in the international science olympiads recognized and participated in by TUBITAK, may apply directly to Başkent University.
  4. Once the admission procedure is completed, the status of those students who submit documents showing they are Turkish citizens, Turkish-Cypriots, or of Turkish origin will not change; thus their international student status will remain until graduation.
  5. Those candidates who will apply to the university with YOS (Entrance Examination for Foreign Students) results are required to have scored a minimum of 40 standard points from the 2007 or 2008 Basic Learning Skills Test.
  6. Apart from YOS, international candidates may apply by submitting one of the following required test scores listed below:
  • SAT 1 (Scholastic Aptitude Test): A minimum total score of 1000
  • GCE (General Certificate Education): "A Level" in at least 3 subjects, one of which is relevant to the candidate's chosen program
  • ACT (American College Test): A minimum total score of 21
  • Tawjihi (administered in Jordan and Palestine): 80 GPA in Science Stream.
  • Baccalaureate Libanais: A minimum diploma grade of 13 in Science Stream.
  • Gaokao Test (administered in China): A minimum total score of 500
  • IB (International Baccalaureate): A minimum diploma grade of 24
  • ABITUR: A minimum diploma grade of 4


B. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
  • Application Form
  • Exam Result: Original or attested copy of YOS or one of the equivalent exam result.
  • High school Diploma: Attested/notarized copy of high school diploma in English or Turkish. (An equivalence letter certifying that your diploma is equivalent to a Turkish high school diploma will be required during registration. It can be obtained from Ministry of Education of Turkey or from Turkish Embassies in your country).
  • Official Transcript: Original official transcript (sealed and approved by your high school), listing your high school courses and grades as a translated copy (if the document is not in English or Turkish)
  • Application Fee payment receipt: An application fee of 100$ (+ 8% tax) for each program being applied is required. Fees should be paid to Denizbank A.Ş. Bahçelievler Branch or Denizbank A. Ş. Başkent University Branch (Bağlıca Campus), account number - 3010-796910 - 361. Receipts should be submitted along with other documents.


C. APPLICATION DATE AND LOCATION
All applications must be sent or personally submitted to the following address between July 14 - August 11 2008.

D. REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS
It is at Başkent University's sole discretion to review and rank candidates, and to admit and place them within program quotas. Meeting the application criteria does not guarantee admission to the programs.
E. INFORMATION
The 2008 YOS quota of Başkent University and related programs and the conditions for application are given below:
  • " In 2008 - 2009 academic year, tuition fee for registration for each programme is 15,000 $ (+ 1,200 $ tax). The annual adjustment in tuition fee is based on U.S. Dollars and is limited to a maximum increase of 7,5% according to the previous year's tuition fee.
  • " There is a one-academic-year "Intensive English Program" for students who are unable to show proficiency in the language at entrance. This period is excluded from the normal period for completion of under graduate studies. Students who pass the English Language Proficiency Exam of Başkent University or those who attain a score required by the university in any of the following exams (TOEFL, TWE, IELTS, FCE, or CPE) on the condition that the results are attained within the last two years, can register directly to their chosen program and start their freshman year.
  • " Students registering to the Department of Nursing and Health Services in the Faculty of Health Sciences are required to wear a uniform when attending practicum. This program is open for female students only.
  • " Students whose Turkish proficiency level is "B" or "A" can register directly to their chosen program and start their freshman year. Those students with a "C" level are required to sit the Turkish Language Proficiency Test of Başkent University and attain a minimum of "B" grade. Students who fail to attain the minimum grade from the test will attend a "Turkish Preparatory Program" offered by Başkent University Turkish Education Unit .
